Follow Me

~ Follow Me ~

If I told you
that I couldn't promise the sun would always shine
but I could promise you would always know warmth
my love like warm amber on an onyx night
would you follow me?

If I told you
that I couldn't promise the moon would always come out
but I could promise my heart would always shine
lighting the way for you
would you follow me?

If I told you
that I couldn't promise when the wind blows, it won't bite
but I could promise you shelter
wrapped up in my arms
would you follow me?

If I told you
that I couldn't promise some days won't taste bitter
but I could promise that life together would be sweet
and that we would always crave each other
would you follow me?

I will seek out beauty to share with you
but when it hides, dancing just beyond the shadows
I can strike up music of our own
you will still feel the warmth, see the light
feel the breeze and taste the love
if you will follow me.

A simple love story

"Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
in the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
it may take a kiss or two"

(excerpt from 'what are you doing the rest of your life')

~ a simple love story ~

Fervent wishes make haste in the sky
blowing in the wind, deliver or die
heart in a lurch, awaiting reply
poised to stop, if it all goes awry

All on the table, as the sun sets
time slips away while the moon frets
was it enough? Besieged by regrets
should have done more, lest he forgets

'Call me' she whispered; though barely a sound
her plea was felt from miles around
she thought herself lost, but he knew she was found
he emerged from the shadows as doubt ran aground

'Silly girl' he chided, 'why can't you see
you are the sun and the moon and the earth to me
tomorrow is waiting, so if you'll agree
we'll just slip away now, content as can be.'

His eyes met hers, so she'd understand
she saw, reflected, what Fate had planned
with a smile and a laugh, she took his hand
knowing their future together would always be grand.

Dawn

~ Dawn ~

In the morning hush, under clouds of blush
love stirs and stretches, in no rush
coffee for two, balcony with a view
just leisure kisses to pursue

Moments of glory, love's inventory
just the beginning of our story
a future to fill, with touches that thrill
endless moments where time stands still

Because you knew that our love was true
and because I am one with you
our hearts will endeavor to beat forever
as body and soul, we come together.

and they wished for 'forever'...

“The Kiss” Auguste Rodin, 1889

“Give me a kiss, and to that kiss a score;
then to that twenty, add a hundred more:
a thousand to that hundred: so kiss on,
to make that thousand up a million.
Treble that million, and when that is done,
let’s kiss afresh, as when we first begun.”
~ Robert Herrick ~

***

In the span of a heartbeat
our past and future met
dancing circles around the stars
for the universe to behold

we became the reason
that time dared not exist
while sun and moon promised
to always come out when we kissed

‘forever’ was a lullaby
whispered on the breeze
its meaning held as lovers meld
and hearts and souls unite

and we will look back
to a hundred years ago
to the first kiss, and the tenth kiss
and the kiss where we lost control

to idyllic sighs and all love implies
we’ll think “those were the days”
but in the span of a second heartbeat
our future again unfolds.

Dragonfly Whispers

~ Dragonfly Whispers ~

In the space between gravity and the moon
whispers ride on the backs of dragonflies
liaisons between two hearts
iridescent in repose

Alight upon the water, swim into its soul
become its reflection – merge as a whole
answer the needs its truth will show
carry forth its wishes, change the river flow

Gravity cannot hold a heartbeat in flight
when the moon seeks to deliver fate
dragonfly wings match the hearts’ rhythm
as the whispers fall into place
